(2 years, fixed-term, 0.58 FTE, £19,330-21,359 per annum inclusive of Oxford University Weighting)

Applications are invited for a part-time Stipendiary Lecturership in Italian at St Hugh’s College, Oxford, tenable from 1 October 2025. This is a two-year fixed-term position that may be suitable for someone with postgraduate qualifications, ideally who has recently completed a PhD or DPhil and who is seeking teaching experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a ‘stint’ of six weighted hours per week (see Job Description), and a 7th paid hour per week is included in the remuneration to allow the Lecturer to keep up with scholarship. The teaching will include some medieval and early modern poetry and 20th-century cinema, as part of the Preliminary Examination (first year), and research-led topics for the Final Honour School (fourth year) including ‘Modern Italian Women Writers and Poets’ and ‘Literatures of Migration’. They may be asked to supervise undergraduate dissertations on topics close to their own area of expertise.

The basic stipend of the Lecturer will be £19,330-21,359 per annum (actual salary), depending on experience. The Lecturer will have membership of the Senior Common Room (for which there is a small annual charge) and will be entitled to four free meals at the common table in St Hugh’s during weeks 0 to 9 of each term.

The closing date for receipt of applications and references is 9.00am on Tuesday 24 June 2025. Interviews will take place via Microsoft Teams provisionally on Tuesday 8 July 2025.

Informal inquiries may be made to Professor Emma Bond (emma.bond@st-hughs.ox.ac.uk) or to the Senior Tutor of St Hugh’s (senior.tutor@st-hughs.ox.ac.uk). These will not influence the selection and appointment procedure in any way.

St Hugh’s is committed to fostering equality, diversity and inclusiveness at every level. We particularly encourage applications from women, disabled people and people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, as these groups are currently under-represented in our academic staff.
