Birkbeck, University of London, has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to join our teaching team in the School of Creative Arts, Culture and Communication

We are looking for an Associate Lecturer to convene and teach on the module Collaborative Theatre Making starting this Autumn 2025 on a three month, part time contract:-

  • Collaborative Theatre Making
  • 30 hours of teaching over 10 weeks
  • Teaching Mondays 6-9pm (29/09/25 – 08/12/2025)

As Associate Lecturer, you will design, convene, teach and assess this studiobased module that expands student knowledge of the key practices, histories, ideas, skills, styles, debates, collectives and companies shaping the most exciting collaborative performance forms.

Throughout the module you will guide students as they analyse the dynamic relationship between practice and theory, and facilitate the creating and staging of a new piece of collaborative performance.

To succeed, you will have knowledge of a variety of devised, collaborative, applied theatre-making techniques and experience as a working theatre maker in the industry.

As well as active expertise in at least two of the following areas is essential: devising and collaborative performance practice, immersive storytelling, digital dramaturgies, and applied theatre. 

We welcome applications from colleagues with proven higher education experience and a portfolio as an active professional working within the theatre and/or performance industries. The successful candidate will be required to teach all sessions of the module.

Remuneration:

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of service with the College (starting rate £68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
