St Mary’s University is a strong and welcoming community, with a distinctive ethos and Catholic mission and values. We are committed to academic excellence, preparing students for successful careers, and flourishing lives, in a supportive, inclusive, and inspiring environment.
With over 6000 students and 700 staff, the University makes significant contributions to our local community and wider society. We are committed to the value of interdisciplinary study and community-engaged learning, to prepare students for addressing complex local and global challenges. Research and knowledge exchange is also core to our purpose, and underpins our teaching excellence, as well as our broader contribution to society through practical application and impact. We further extend our reach through a range of academic partnerships, within the UK and internationally, which widen access to our programmes, diversify our offering, and contribute to our mission.
St Mary’s has seen rises across the major league tables, as a result of strategic decision making and the hard work of colleagues across the university. St Mary’s was ranked top 10 in London in the 2025 Good University Guide, and top 10 in the country for teaching quality (2025 Good University Guide). We were ranked in the top 10 for student satisfaction in both the Times Higher Education 2024 and the 2024 Complete University Guide, as well as Top 10 in the country and 2nd in London for safety (Complete University Guide 2024). We were also the highest riser in the Times Higher Education Research Excellence Rankings. This follows the School of Education retaining its Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rating in all categories for Primary and Secondary Initial Teacher Training last year.
