Oxford University Department for Continuing Education (OUDCE) is seeking to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in History of Design.
About the role
The History of Design portfolio in the Department for Continuing Education primarily comprises the MSt in History of Design, and the Departmental Lecturer in History of Design will be required to undertake teaching, examining and other related activities on this course.
The History of Design provision has the potential for growth, and the Departmental Lecturer in History of Design will be involved in scoping out new opportunities, for example in the programme of open-access Weekly Classes and Short Online Courses, day and weekend events, lecture series and summer schools.
The Departmental Lecturer in History of Design will have a specialism in the history of design with a modern-period emphasis (since 1851). We are seeking a scholar who has excellent teaching and pedagogical skills. Candidates whose fields of research and scholarship examine under-represented histories of everyday objects and places are particularly welcome including, but not limited to, Global South contexts, disability and sensorial affect, and technology and digital design.
We particularly invite scholars who have had curatorial experience or whose teaching and scholarship is object-led, as the post would involve opportunities to work with colleagues at the Ashmolean Museum and to use the collections of the Ashmolean Museum and other GLAM (Galleries, Libraries and Museums) institutions in Oxford.
They will be part of the academic community of the Department and engage in advanced scholarship.
This is a part time, permanent role.
