Salary on appointment will be £38,249 per annum (pro rata), with an annual increment up to £45,413 per annum (pro rata).

An opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer to join the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing on a fixed-term basis to contribute towards teaching on our world-renowned Creative Writing degree programmes.

This post replaces a staff member who has been awarded an external research grant, and the structure and time frame of the post reflects the specific nature of their period of leave.

This is a particularly exciting moment to join our School. Having pioneered the teaching of Creative Writing in the UK more than 50 years ago, in 2025 UEA launched a new MA in Creative Writing, a degree which offers students the opportunity to work across multiple forms and which has a strong focus on the relationship between digital technologies and creative writing.

You will contribute towards teaching and assessment on this programme, including the module ‘Creative Writing in a Digital World’, with opportunities to help shape the module’s development.

You will also contribute to teaching across our Undergraduate Creative Writing programmes, including modules such as ‘Writing in the World: Placements, Podcasts, Creative Non-Fiction’ and ‘Creative Writing: Beginnings’.

In addition, you will contribute towards teaching on our English Literature degree and will also supervise and assess Creative Writing dissertations at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, while playing a role in the life and culture of the school, including participating in admissions-related activities.

We welcome applications from published writers in any genre, although candidates with experience working across multiple forms (e.g. prose, poetry, scriptwriting, non-fiction, hybrid or experimental forms) may be at an advantage. It is essential that you have extensive understanding and expertise in working with digital technologies and creative writing.

You should have a first degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area with experience of undergraduate teaching and student assessment at all levels including coursework and undergraduate dissertations. Teaching experience at postgraduate level and an interest in relevant enterprise and engagement activities would be advantageous.

This post is available on a fixed term basis until 31 December 2026. The role will be part-time (0.5 FTE) until 31 December 2025, rising to full time from 1 January 2026.

UEA offers a variety of flexible working options, and we encourage applications from individuals who would prefer a flexible working pattern including annualised hours, compressed working hours, job share, term-time only and/or hybrid working. Details of preferred hours should be stated in the personal statement and will be discussed further at interview.

Further information on our great benefits package, including 44 days annual leave inclusive of Bank Holidays and additional University Customary days (pro rata for part-time), can be found on our benefits page.

Closing date: 19 June 2025

The University holds an Athena Swan Silver Institutional Award in recognition of our advancement towards gender equality.
