The role involves working collaboratively within a matrix structure to build strong relationships across the Academic Team, Student Experience team, Centre management, central Study Group teams, and the university partner, all aimed at enhancing student outcomes, satisfaction, and operational efficiency. It includes leading a team of subject tutors to ensure high-quality delivery of academic modules aligned with agreed standards, curricula, and assessment methods. Additionally, the role encompasses the review, design, and management of subject modules, along with the development and leadership of teaching, learning, and assessment initiatives to embed best practices and continuously improve the student experience.

To manage curriculum development and compliance in alignment with Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) quality assurance processes.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Lead and motivate a team of subject tutors to contribute to ensuring the best possible student outcomes and student experience on the programme
  • In conjunction with the Centre Leadership team, develop and implement an approach to learning, teaching and assessment that inspires students and provides an appropriate learning journey in meeting their development needs and preparation for university study.
  • Identify and create strategies to support student learning that can be integrated into subject modules and, in conjunction with the Centre’s leadership team, implement and evaluate the impact of these strategies on students’ progression and academic development.
  • Work in conjunction with the Deputy Director of Curriculum and Progression to provide effective performance management of direct reports, including appraisals, evaluation of individual contribution and development, adherence to Study Group Ireland policies and procedures and setting of outcomes; foster staff members' strengths to establish real career paths for the benefit of the individual and the organisation; and identify and arrange training and continuous professional development activities
  • Work with Centre management to recruit and induct new academic staff as required and according to DISC policies and procedures, ensuring that all subject tutors have appropriate background checks and references and are suitably qualified to teach the sessions and modules for which they are scheduled
  • Develop and implement effective teaching and assessment strategies that align with best practices and QQI standards.
  • Participate in QQI audits and reviews, providing necessary documentation and evidence for compliance.
  • Manage annual leave, absences and pay claims for direct reports
  • Handle grievances and disciplinary issues at initial stages for direct reports
  • Facilitate and organise opportunities for staff to develop their pedagogy around language skills
  • Participate actively within the Centre’s leadership team to promote high expectations to staff and students and to deliver an excellent student learning experience
  • Attend and contribute to relevant DISC governance committee meetings
  • Contribute to partnership development with university academics and leaders to enhance students’ academic preparedness and transition to university study
  • Plan and undertake regular personal development as agreed with your line manager
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of the students for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
  • Plan and oversee the design and delivery of subject modules ensuring the best possible student outcomes and student experience, holding regular team meetings and student focus groups to review and inform planning and development and adherence to Study Group Ireland policies and procedures.

ABOUT YOU

  • Master’s degree (essential)
  • Relevant Teaching qualification (desirable)
  • Leadership and management training (desirable)
  • Leadership and management experience in a teaching and learning environment (essential)
  • Experience of leading a team to achieve high levels of student academic performance and outcomes against agreed targets (essential)
  • Experience of teaching, ideally in the Irish Higher or Further Education sector (essential)
  • Experience of leading the provision of academic programmes within HE or FE environments (desirable)
  • Experience of partnership working in the education sector (desirable)
  • Experience with QQI quality assurance processes and procedures (desirable)
