Assistant Professor/Lecturer or Assistant Lecturer (Community Work and Youth Work)

The Role

We are seeking an excellent academic to join our staff as an Assistant Professor or Assistant Lecturer in Community Work or dual qualified Community Work and Youth Work. The person appointed will have a proven record of teaching, research and publication, appropriate to career stage, as well as appropriate experience in the field. They will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching programme of the Department and undertake teaching duties on the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as the supervision of Master’s and PhD students.

The appointee will be expected to build a strong research profile, that supports the University’s research strategy including affiliating to the Research Institutes, where appropriate and working with colleagues on national and international research. The appointee will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance and generate publications of international standard. 

Salary

Assistant Professor / Lecturer: €64,112 – €101,524 p.a. (7 points)

Assistant Lecturer: €41,682 – €71,285 p.a. (14 points)

Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.

The ideal candidate will have:

Essential 

• A PhD or Doctorate in community work and/or youth work, or a directly related field*
• A professional qualification in community work or dual qualified in Community Work and Youth Work
• Substantial professional practice experience in community work, or both community work and youth work, along with experience of broader sectoral engagement;
• A broad experience of professional and higher education;
• A strong academic record of teaching youth work and/or community work, along with related professional and social science subjects;
• Experience of professional research and publications associated with the discipline demonstrating potential to become a significant contributor in the field
• Experience of, and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, programme development and academic innovation;
• Experience of supervising student research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
• Experience of, and commitment to, working in an interdisciplinary setting;
• Good administrative, organisational, teamwork and communication skills. 

* Ideally the PhD/Doctorate will be conferred, but it should be completed to submission at the time of the interview. Where the person does not have a PhD/Doctorate at the time of the appointment they will be appointed at the level of Assistant Lecturer.

Desirable

• High level experience – i.e. leadership/seniority in a local/regional organisation and/or national senior level experience in Community Work.
