About the role
We are seeking to appoint a customer focused Library Assistant to work in the historic Bodleian Old Library and Radcliffe Camera, assisting readers in their use of the library. You will undertake a range of duties on front line desks, at all times providing high quality customer service to readers and members of the public. You will also participate in sorting/re-shelving books and collection management projects across the library reading rooms.
This is a permanent, full-time position, working 36.5 hours per week.
This role requires lifting and carrying boxes of library materials, pushing trolleys, climbing ladders and kick-stools in order to access some of the library’s bookshelves and to re-shelve materials.
About You
You will be educated to GCSE level or equivalent, and have the ability to communicate effectively, confidently and courteously with readers, colleagues and the public. You will have good general IT literacy and a proven ability to perform routine tasks with care and accuracy. Reliability and the ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team in a busy working environment are essential. Previous experience of library work is desirable and familiarity with ALMA/library databases would be an advantage, though full training will be given as necessary.
