About the role

We are looking for a proactive and highly organised administrator to support the Student Experience Team at the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care. The Student Experience and Support Officer will be responsible for supporting the team plan and deliver student-focussed events, committees and wellbeing interventions. They will assist with complex day-to-day issues, responding to enquiries in line with the team’s Service Level Agreements and, where appropriate, university safeguarding policies. They will support the Student Experience Coordinator to plan and run the faculty’s Welcome Week programme. They will triage complex and sensitive student situations, helping the Student Support Manager to contain individual and institutional risk.  

The Student Experience and Support Officer will support the running of key faculty and university processes, including Student Staff Liaison Committees and the Support for Study process. The post holder will develop a close working relationship with Cohort Leads, Programme Leads, Associate Deans and other members of the Faculty staff. They will also model positive and supportive communication with our students, observing principles of discretion and inclusivity at all times. The post-holder will represent the Faculty in communicating with wider university support teams such as the Disability Support & Inclusion Service and the Money & Housing Advice Service.

This is a full-time (35 hours per week) and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to draft inclusive, compassionate & sensitive correspondence and documents autonomously to a broad range of audiences, incl. vulnerable people
  • Experience of case work, with appropriate record keeping and knowing how to apply the principles of confidentiality and referral
  • Experience of supporting events for large audiences, including initial planning, communication, and delivery
  • Experience of meeting servicing, including taking accurate and comprehensive minutes which can be used for formal processes
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines and plan effectively across competing priorities, maintaining accuracy at all times
  • Knowledge and understanding of the range of university support services, how they are structured and their core services and processes
  • Excellent IT experience across Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook with a working knowledge across all other Microsoft packages and experience in the use of databases and student records systems (such as SITS)
  • Commitment to promoting inclusivity, equality and diversity in the workplace

Desirable criteria

  • Numeracy skills and the ability to gather and present complex quantitative & qualitative data in an accessible format
  • Experience of working with complex or distressing student situations, including where there is a safeguarding element, and the ability to contain anxiety and practise effective self-care
