This post is based in the School of Engineering, as a full time (36.5 hours per week) fixed-term contract, finishing no later than 30 March 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone previously worked as lab technician to join our dynamic team. 

The post holder will help support the chemical engineering research activities within the School enabling effective and leading research to be conducted within the labs. The post holder will also be expected to provide advice, guidance and support across the other academic research activities in the School that may require the use of chemicals.

This role will provide effective and efficient facilities support via the design, procurement, assembly, management, maintenance and running of a wide range of technical and analytical research equipment:

• Industrial chemistry test benches
• Lab scale chemical reactors
• Quantitative fluid analysis equipment (gas chromatography; HPLC; Mass spectroscopy; TCD analysers, flow cell IR analysers; paramagnetic analysers)
• Solid analysis equipment (diffuse reflectance or transmission spectroscopy).
• High vacuum equipment

The post holder will have a good understanding of Health & Safety and experience of industrial chemistry test bench facilities use/management.

The post holder will have responsibility for ordering components etc. and so will need some awareness of budgets and University financial regulations and procedures, but they will not sign off purchases / manage a budget directly.

About You  

We are seeking highly skilled and motivated individual with a good honours degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline and has experience of working within a chemical engineering environment, with experience of chemistry test bench facilities, gas lines and manifolds.

You should have good knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, standards and procedures. Awareness of legislative requirements to ensure compliance in work areas, including guiding and supervising others use.  Having NEBOSH Health and Safety certificate or willing to work towards it would be an advantage.

You should have good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in order to exchange information with internal and external customers, provide advice and guidance and present results and good attention to detail, accuracy, tenacious and methodical.
