Research Assistant (Postgrad) or Associate (Postdoc) in Mathematical Immunology

Location: South Kensington, London, UK

About the role:

The successful candidate will use modern analysis techniques (including AI/ML) to identify donor features associated with good clinical outcome of transplantation.

You will join a team of mathematical immunologists led by Becca Asquith at Imperial College London.

What you would be doing:

Acute myeloid leukemia and acute lymphoblastic leukemia are common, aggressive leukemias. Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation is a potential cure. However, long-term success is limited, and better strategies are desperately needed.

In this project we will analyse a unique donor-recipient data set. We will develop new analysis techniques, such as immunology-inspired ML, and use them, together with a novel hypothesis of donor immune kinetics, to improve donor selection for transplantation.

GOALS:

• Significantly improve a life-saving procedure.
• Develop novel mechanism-informed methodologies to apply ML to human health.

What we are looking for:

The successful candidate will have a:

• Strong background in a relevant discipline (mathematics/ physics/ computer science/ bioinformatics).
• Enthusiasm for immunology and mathematical modelling
• Creative approach to problem-solving
• Open-minded and cooperative attitude
• Good working knowledge of coding
