About the role

The School of Popular Music & Voice wishes to appoint two Part Time Lecturers across the BA (Hons) Music (Song writing) curriculum, to deliver teaching and assessing and undertake any other work associated with relevant modules. 

We are particularly looking for Song writing Practitioners who can deliver 1-1 song writing tuition to a high standard, with excellent technical knowledge, artistic insight, collaborative skills and industry experience. We are looking for individuals with a range of different backgrounds and experience of different genres. 

The teaching term follows the Conservatoire’s Undergraduate Music Academic Calendar. Note that other duties may fall outside of the term time weeks. The start date for the teaching will be w/c 22nd September 2025, but with planning and preparation happening prior to this week.

The anticipated number of hours available per a successful candidate is currently 7 hours per week, term time only. Please note however that the total number of working hours for appointed staff depends on the module and on student enrolment. The rate of pay includes preparation time and holiday pay.

What you will do

  • Plan and deliver one-to-one and/or group teaching sessions for students on the BA (Hons) Music (Song writing) programme and across the Department of Popular Music and Voice including song writing related subjects i.e. self-promotion and marketing, and collaborative writing and production
  • Teach specialist subjects related to song writing, including participation in relevant extra-curricular activities and events
  • Support and facilitate student performances, showcases, and related events
  • Participate as a panel member in the assessment of songwriting modules
  • Collaborate with Academic Managers to support the ongoing development of the Song writing provision
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and curriculum development of the Song writing discipline within the department

About you

  • Degree in related subject area
  • Professional experience of song writing and an understanding of the music industry with specific reference to song writing
  • Comprehensive knowledge of song writing pedagogy, methodology and theory
  • Strong communication skills, with a proven ability to engage, motivate, and support students through clear and inclusive teaching
  • Be collaborative and willing to work with a team of managers and lecturers to deliver an excellent student experience and contribute to a thriving work environment.
