About the Role

The School of Popular Music & Voice wishes to appoint a Lecturer & Module Co-ordinator - BA Voice - Performance & Pedagogy programme, to deliver teaching and assessing and undertake any other work associated relevant to the module. As students undertake external placements in the 2nd semester, any successful candidate would also help facilitate these in liaison with the relevant Academic Manager, the School Administrator and any external partners.

We are looking for individuals with prior experience of delivering a range of Music Pedagogy modules at Undergraduate level, and would particularly welcome applications from voice practitioners. Individuals with experience of teaching music and facilitating music making in a range of different educational settings would also be encouraged to apply.

As this is a new course at the Conservatoire, we will have a 1st year cohort only for the academic year 25/26. This is the module content for Pedagogy Year 1:

 

Semester 1 (10 weeks):

Music and the Community – 1.5 hours teaching per week 

Teaching Practices – 1 hour teaching per week 

Pedagogy in Context – 1 hour teaching per week 

 

Semester 2 (10 weeks):

Music and the Community – 1.5 hours teaching per week 

Teaching Practices – 1 hour teaching per week 

Pedagogy in Context – 1 hour teaching per week 

 

The teaching term follows the Conservatoire’s Undergraduate Music Academic Calendar. Note that other duties may fall outside of the term time weeks. The start date for the teaching will be w/c 22nd September 2025, but with planning and preparation happening prior to this week. 

Please note that the total number of working hours for appointed staff depends on teaching and assessment responsibilities, module co-ordination workload agreements and on student enrolment numbers. The rate of pay includes preparation time and holiday pay.

What you will do

  • Plan and deliver lectures and seminars for the Pedagogy module within the BA Voice (Performance & Pedagogy) programme, part of the Department of Popular Music and Voice
  • Take full responsibility for module planning and delivery, including the design and management of all assessment activities
  • Support and coordinate student placements and facilitate participation in external events related to the module
  • Serve on assessment panels for live performance assessments and evaluate student work submitted via the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
  • Collaborate closely with Academic Managers to contribute to the development and enhancement of the voice provision
  • Represent the voice discipline in shaping departmental strategies and curriculum development

About you

  • Degree in related subject area and research experience and/or professional experience of music pedagogy 
  • Experience of working as a music educator and/or facilitator in a range of settings
  • Comprehensive knowledge of music education in different sectors and relevant teaching practices
  • Strong communication skills, with a proven ability to engage, motivate, and support students through clear and inclusive teaching
  • Be collaborative and willing to work with a team of managers and lecturers to deliver an excellent student experience and contribute to a thriving work environment.
