The Institute of Science and Environment is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Lecturer in Geography with knowledge and experience in subjects relevant to our existing programme and wider portfolio.  

We are looking for a highly motivated individual, keen to join an enthusiastic team with a passion for creating transformational learning experiences. You will be integral to the delivery of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as well as keen to contribute to future developments. Applications are especially encouraged from individuals with expertise in development, environmental or cultural geography who have strong expertise in geospatial technologies and GIS approaches. You will have an interest in, and ability to, complete research and publish in your chosen discipline field. Candidates should hold a relevant first degree and preferably a PhD as well as a genuine ability to facilitate learning in diverse contexts (class and field based).   

You will join a successful, practical and research informed teaching team with a reputation for innovation in course design and development. For those new to teaching, the University offers a PgC in Learning and Teaching for Higher Education. As one of the most research active Institutes in the University, we encourage and support all staff to continue to develop their personal research interests. This is supported by the existence of the Centre for National Parks & Protected Areas, which has sub-themes of Cultural Landscapes, Conservation & Ecology, Human-Nature Relations and Rural & Visitor Economy. 

The Institute is split across two sites, Ambleside and Carlisle, to suit the academic portfolio and delivery needs of the programmes. The academic portfolio provides a range of undergraduate programmes including Outdoor Leadership, Outdoor Adventure and Environmental Studies, Geography, Forestry and a range of Conservation programmes at our Ambleside Campus and Biomedical Science, Environmental Science and Zoology at our Carlisle Campus. Additionally, we have a developing postgraduate taught provision and a growing postgraduate research community. Our Geography programme is  delivered from Ambleside campus in the Heart of the Lake District National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
