Use Behavioural Science to Shape Global Health Policy

Are you passionate about understanding how people and governments make decisions in the face of uncertainty? Do you want to apply your research to some of the most urgent challenges in public health?

The Centre for Health Economics & Policy Innovation (CHEPI) at Imperial Business School is recruiting a Research Associate in Behavioural Economics to contribute to high-profile projects spanning pandemic preparedness, non-communicable disease (NCD) prevention, and behavioural health interventions. You’ll be at the heart of an interdisciplinary team combining behavioural science, economics, epidemiology, and policy engagement.

Why This Role Matters

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to EPPI – the Economics of Pandemic Preparedness Initiative – a major research programme combining behavioural insights, economic modelling, and public policy to improve global readiness for future pandemics.

You’ll also work on projects addressing behavioural responses to health and environmental policies, applying behavioural economics to real-world challenges and engaging with policymakers at national and international levels.

What You’ll Do

  • Apply behavioural economics frameworks to pandemic and health policy.
  • Design and run experiments, surveys, and empirical analyses on behavioural drivers.
  • Analyse large datasets to understand individual and institutional responses.
  • Translate research into actionable policy insights, dashboards, and briefings.
  • Present at conferences and policy workshops across the globe.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a sharp, curious, and policy-minded behavioural economist with:

  • A PhD (or near completion) in behavioural economics, health economics, public health, or a related field
  • Experience with experimental and/or quantitative methods
  • Strong econometric or statistical programming skills (e.g. R, Stata, Python)
  • The ability to translate complex findings into real-world impact
  • A desire to work across disciplines and borders

Why Join Us?

  • Global Impact – Influence how governments prepare for pandemics and promote better health.
  • Dynamic Team – Collaborate with leading researchers in economics, health policy, and behavioural science.
  • Career Development – Contribute to large-scale international initiatives and grow your research portfolio.
  • World-Leading Institution – Be part of Imperial College London’s commitment to research excellence and real-world change.
