Lecturer / Assistant Professor

The Role

We are seeking an excellent academic to join our staff as a Lecturer / Assistant Professor in Hydro-climatology, Climate Resilience & Adaptation. The person appointed will have a proven record of teaching, research and publication, appropriate to career stage. They will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching programme of the Department and undertake teaching duties on the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as the supervision of Masters and PhD students.

The appointee will be expected to build a strong research profile, that supports the University’s research strategy including affiliating to the Research Institutes, where appropriate and working with colleagues on national and international research. The appointee will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance and generate publications of international standard.

The ideal candidate will have:

Essential 

• A PhD in Hydrology or Hydro-climatology or a closely related discipline.
• A strong academic record in research, demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications and research funding commensurate with career stage.
• Expertise in evaluating hydro-climatological processes, with skills in hydro-climatological modelling (e.g., catchment hydrology, land surface modelling).
• Expertise in geospatial analysis and data infrastructure for hydroclimatology, including the integration of large-scale datasets, use of spatial data standards, and development of methods to assess hydroclimatic processes, events and impacts.
• Expertise in climate change adaptation planning and risk assessment related to water resources, flood risk, water quality, or a combination of these areas.
• A commitment to excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in hydro-climatology and geospatial analysis, along with a commitment to curriculum development to support learning, and in the development of innovative new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
• Experience supervising graduate research students.
• Experience of, and commitment to, working in an interdisciplinary setting.
• Good administrative, organisational, teamwork and communication skills.
