About the role
Applications are invited for Research Technician. This is a key role in Cutting-Edge Diabetes and Obesity Research Project. The successful applicant will join a thriving and world-leading group engaged in making and applying scientific discoveries in the gut hormone field with the ultimate aim of improving human health. You will play a key role in conducting the in vivo and in vitro testing of new gut hormone analogues designed by the group.
We are seeking a dynamic individual with expertise in pharmacology and clinical research to join our team. Our studies focus on exploring innovative treatments for diabetes and obesity.
What you would be doing
The post holder’s work will focus on the development of new gut hormone-derived peptide agonists for the treatment of disease. Gut hormones regulate a large number of important metabolic processes, and there is great interest in exploiting their effects therapeutically. The blockbuster anti-obesity agent semaglutide, based on modifications of the gut hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), exemplifies this approach. The key responsibilities of the post holder are to perform and analyse in vivo experiments to test candidate gut hormone analogues designed by the group; perform and analyse in vitro biochemical and imaging-based assays to assess GPCR signalling and trafficking responses; provide guidance and technical support for associated students (PhD, MSc, BSc) and others working in the team as appropriate; contribute to other related projects within the lab and maintain accurate and complete records of all findings.
