The role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Core Facilities Technician (grade E) to join the Biological Sciences technical facilities team based within the Life Sciences Building (LSB) at the University of Bristol.
We look forward to welcoming the successful candidate into our small and friendly Facilities team. The role has a large customer facing aspect to it and requires the ability to think on your feet. A sound knowledge of handling lab chemicals and a working knowledge of lab Health and Safety would be a distinct advantage.
What will you be doing?
You will play a key role within the LSB Technical Facilities team. You will be the main person responsible for goods inwards in the LSB and the efficient running of Stores. There will be daily interaction with students, staff and couriers so a friendly, affable nature is key. The role will therefore involve using the University’s ERP system to identify and receipt orders. You will be responsible for managing the levels of the stock items held and helping to keep track of the stores budget.
In addition to the Stores aspect of the role you will also be involved in Sustainability – managing some of the building’s recycling schemes. You will also support our autoclave facility and help manage the waste streams.
You will require an appreciation of the range of research and equipment used in the building. Previous laboratory experience is desirable, as you will be required to occasionally help with research. The role also includes the maintenance of records, chemicals and equipment; ensuring that biological materials are dealt with appropriately, helping to keep the laboratories maintained in a safe and tidy fashion and ensuring that standard safety procedures are followed.

You will require relevant qualifications at GCSE or NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent level, or equivalent work experience in a Biology Field.
