Applications are invited for a 12-month research position at the Centre of Latin American Studies (0.5) and the Centre of Development Studies (0.5).
The Centres are eager to receive applications from candidates with a deep engagement with Latin America and Development Studies, and who have the research skills to carry out archival research at the University of Cambridge. The purpose of this position is threefold. First, the Research Associate will work at the Centre of Latin American Studies to carry out research in the archives of the Centre in advance of an upcoming anniversary. Working with the Director of the Centre, the Associate will gather and collate data, organise material and prepare for upcoming events. In addition, they will help to expand the Centre's connection with its intellectual history and globally connected alumni. Second, the Research Associate will teach and supervise MPhil students at the Centre of Development Studies and the Centre of Latin American Studies and examine submitted work. Third, the position will allow the post-holder to further advance their own intellectual community and research career via a joint appointment at these two vibrant Centres.
Candidates for the post of Research Associate must have a PhD (submitted or nearly submitted at the time of application) in a relevant field. They should provide evidence of potential for research and publication at the highest level, and of willingness to work as part of a highly collaborative team. Candidates must be fluent in English and in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
This post will be based at the Centre of Development Studies and the Centre of Latin American Studies, two world-leading interdisciplinary Centres housed in the Department of Politics and International Studies. Both CLAS and CDS have vibrant graduate student communities, including MPhil and PhD programmes. The Research Associate will be based in Cambridge when not undertaking research and project activities and will be hosted in these communities and in the Department of Politics and International Studies that is also home to all the University's area studies Centres (Latin American, South Asian, African Studies) as well as the Centre for Gender Studies.
