We are seeking to appoint two Lecturers in Civil Engineering to join the Department of Engineering and Technology at the University of Huddersfield. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates with expertise in geotechnical engineering, construction materials, or a related civil engineering field to support the growth of our expanding department.
The successful candidates will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervise research students, and enhance the department’s research profile. We particularly welcome those with experience in applied research, industry engagement, or innovative teaching practices.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary and supportive team, committed to excellence in teaching, research, and knowledge exchange. The department offers a variety of programmes in civil, mechanical, electrical, and environmental engineering, attracting a diverse student population.
Significant investment in modern laboratories, including facilities for structural testing, materials science, and geotechnics, demonstrates our commitment to hands-on learning and innovation. Our strong industry links support placements, collaborative research, and graduate employability.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for career development in a collaborative academic setting. You will help shape our programmes with a particular focus on geotechnical engineering, a strategic priority for the department.
You will be an engaging and innovative educator, dedicated to delivering high-quality learning experiences and supporting student achievement. Alongside teaching, you will undertake and publish high-quality research, seek external funding, and maintain links with industry and professional bodies. Your expertise will support our ambitions in applied research and knowledge transfer.
Candidates should hold a doctoral qualification in civil engineering (or a related area) and a professional accreditation (e.g. Chartered Engineer) or be working towards it (only for the permanent position). You should also have experience teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate level and a developing research profile with published work.
Post 2 is a fixed-term appointment for 12 months, however, as the post is linked to a maternity absence the end date is subject to change.
