About the role:
The Department of Infectious Disease is seeking an excellent administrator to take up the role of Section Manager, supporting principle investigators, researchers and initiatives that are based both overseas and in the UK. .
The Section Manager role is the primary point of contact for all academic and research staff within their group for administrative and operational issues. The post holder will be responsible for supporting research grant applications and ensuring that resources required for projects are costed accurately. The role will also manage a portfolio of existing grants, monitoring and approving spend, and advising academics on best use of funds, ensuring this is in line with University and funder policies. In addition, the Section Manager will support their academics with completion and processing of HR paperwork. The post holder will work closely with colleagues in the Department, the Joint Research Office, HR, Finance, and the Education Team in order to effectively resolve administrative issues. There are also line management responsibilities for team administrators in the Section.

What you would be doing:
This varied and challenging post requires a strong and diverse skillset comprising excellent communication, financial management, organisation, and problem-solving skills. In addition, you will need the ability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels and the ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure.
You will have a passion for providing high quality administrative services and will have experience of working with senior academics. You will be highly numerate with experience of providing financial management advice to budget holders. Experience of full economic costing, of interpreting research funder regulations, and working with NHS Trusts particularly in relation to costing clinical trials, will be beneficial as will knowledge of and experience with HR procedures such as recruitment and selection.
