Cardiff University’s mission is to co-create and share new knowledge to deliver a better world for future generations. Our strategy, ‘Our future, together’, builds on our history, values, strengths, resources and networks to deliver on our ambitious plans and priorities. Our vision is to be a world-leading, research-excellent, and educationally outstanding global university with a transformative social, cultural and economic impact on Cardiff, Wales, the UK and the world.

In this exciting strategic environment, we are seeking to appoint a Head of the School of Law and Politics to lead the School and to deliver the new strategy in a refreshed academic context.

The School has a reputation for internationally excellent scholarship, research and impact. Our research environment is defined by interdisciplinarity, creating unique opportunities for staff and students to collaborate, and we are committed to providing a distinctive and outstanding learning environment for our students to explore the dynamic and fast-paced fields of Law, Politics, and International Relations.

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Head of School will build on firm foundations and oversee the delivery of excellent education and student experience, foster scholarship and research that matters globally, and inspire an inclusive, positively bilingual and anti-racist culture and cynefin, a Welsh term for a trusted, known habitat in which all belong.

The successful candidate will bring an excellent reputation in scholarship, research and teaching but also be able to evidence leadership and management credentials with an inclusive, collaborative approach, and able to build positive relationships internally and externally. They will be a good communicator who can inspire, lead and motivate colleagues across the School. Crucially, they will be able to lead change and deliver against the strategic priorities of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and the wider University. A demonstrable commitment to nurturing an inclusive environment for students and staff is essential, alongside a personal commitment to the core principles of opportunity, openness, transparency and respect for all.
