Background of department/role

The University has experienced significant growth in turnover through the development of strategic partnerships, international activity and income diversification. To support this growth and development, the Finance Department has undergone a transformation and as part of this has created a new role of Risk Management Officer. This role will support the Assistant Director of Finance - Regulatory and Compliance Services in the delivery of risk management services to the University and the regular review and updating of internal audit actions.

As a key member of the team, the Risk Management Officer will be responsible for the reporting structure for risk management for all managers in the University, the reporting of the Business Continuity Plan and follow up on Internal Audit Actions. The Risk Management Officer will provide support and training to Risk owners and compile the risk registers and Internal Audit Management Control schedule (Internal Audit Actions), which will form part of a report to the Senior Management Team and Audit Committee. The post holder will maintain the use of the 4Risk system to support the risk management services.

The post holder will also provide support and cover for the Insurance Officer, along with support in maintaining the risk management system and the Business Continuity register.

On a regular basis the post holder will support the Assistant Director of Finance – Regulatory and Compliance Services in the provision of reports for senior management review, including the production of Risk Registers, the Business Continuity Plan and the Internal Audit Actions progress update. As and when possible, they will support a range of continuous improvement projects to develop ways of working efficiently and effectively.

To work effectively in this role, the post holder will need to have a good understanding and experience of risk management policies and practices, preferably from within the Higher Education or Public Sector. Accuracy and attention to detail is essential. As the role requires the provision of ongoing support to managers across the organisation, the post holder needs to have strong communication and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their report writing skills and have previous experience of a risk or compliance role.
