Are you passionate about the intersection of design, technology, and innovation? We’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Lecturer in Creative Technology and Design to inspire the next generation of designers at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Based within our vibrant Product Design subject area, you’ll play a key role in teaching, curriculum development, research and scholarship shaping the future of design education. You’ll teach and mentor students in Product Design and Design Engineering, delivering hands-on learning in areas such as: drawing, prototyping, computer aided design (CAD), computer aided manufacturing (CAM), and physical computing, as well as integrating contemporary and future-focussed fabrication methods and practices.

Working collaboratively with the Course Team, you will help to develop a strong culture of experimentation with technology and contribute to the development and expansion of the university’s technology, making, and fabrication facilities. You will contribute to, and lead, research and knowledge exchange activities across disciplines within and beyond the school and university.  You will also bring specialist and creative expertise in material innovation and sustainable systems, manufacturing, physical and digital fabrication, helping to inform student approaches to design, technology, industry, and sustainability.

To be successful in this post, you should have:

  • Up-to-date product and industrial design knowledge, including contemporary professional and vocational advancements (including design theories, trends and practices and their impacts on the design industry).
  • Competent user of industry-standard design software.
  • Making skills and ability to teach in model-making, prototyping and manufacturing techniques.
  • A relevant degree in Product/Engineering Design or a closely related subject and a postgraduate qualification in the relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience of, or potential to develop, quality research, consultancy or knowledge exchange activity relevant to the needs of the School.

Our Lecturers also serve as personal tutors, offering pastoral support and guidance. This includes listening with empathy, understanding individual student needs, and referring them to specialist services when appropriate.

This post is offered on a 1.0 full-time equivalent basis, but welcome job share applications.

We have a wide range of benefits including: opportunities for some remote working, generous pension scheme, and additional time off during the festive period.

If you’d like to chat informally before applying, feel free to contact:

Tom Ainsworth (t.ainsworth@brighton.ac.uk) or

Sarah Stevens (S.Stevens2@brighton.ac.uk).

Interviews for this post will be held in late August.
