Mechanical Maintenance Manager

Full time: 35 hours per week

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management and maintenance of mechanical systems within the buildings of the University Estates portfolio (including HVAC, boilers, pumps, water, and related infrastructure) across multiple campuses.

The post holder will line manage a team of multi-campus mechanical support staff, assist in assessing training needs within the mechanical section, and ensure that all work conducted by direct or contract labour complies with applicable health and safety requirements. This includes monitoring and reviewing existing health and safety procedures, preparing risk assessments and method statements, and issuing and managing appropriate permits to work.

The post holder will make a significant contribution to the development and implementation of the University’s strategic objectives and goals, including net-zero 2040.

The successful candidate should have the following

  • An appropriate HND or degree level qualification in building services/ mechanical engineering or equivalent extensive experience
  • Demonstrable practical certification in building mechanical subjects
  • Proven knowledge of current legislation and regulations related to buildings, Mechanical Engineering Services and Health & Safety.
  • Substantial professional management/ supervising in working in a property / estate’s environment
  • Evident experience of mechanical systems in buildings with respect to design, commissioning, operation, maintenance and performance
  • Proven experience and implementing a proactive planned maintenance and reactive maintenance including SOPs, KPIs
  • Experience of working in a similar role including managing and leading direct labour and specialist contractors on maintenance, defect repairs and minor projects in a 24/7 building/ estates environment
  • Demonstrable experience of budget management and expenditure tracking.
  • Experience in the use of Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) software
  • Experience in relevant regulatory framework and health and safety regulations applicable to the post including but not limited to Asbestos, Legionella, Electrical Safety, LOLER, Gas Safety, PUWER and CDM
  • Proven work experience of having worked within the building services sector, undertaking mechanical installation and maintenance works
