We are seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to the newly created role of Foundation Chair and Director of the Liverpool Institute for Child Health and Wellbeing. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading an ambitious and ground-breaking new initiative in the long-standing collaboration between the University of Liverpool and Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.
The vision for the Institute is to serve as a global centre of excellence in research, innovation and digital health, dedicated to improving the futures of children and young people. Inspired by its local community, the Institute will forge a unique alliance between the clinical specialties of a globally-recognised children’s hospital and all three faculties of a leading Russell Group research-intensive university.
As a senior leader, the Foundation Chair and Director will play a pivotal role in establishing and guiding the Liverpool Institute of Child Health and Wellbeing. They will have the opportunity to develop and execute an ambitious strategy for the Institute, and to lead interdisciplinary efforts in research, innovation, education, and clinical practice to improve child health outcomes and their experiences of public services, regionally and globally. The appointee will have the opportunity to develop and execute a strategy for the newly established Institute.
Ideal candidates will be exceptional leaders with a consistent record of excellence in research, innovation or digital health. Candidates should have well-established professional networks, proven national leadership experience, and a notable international presence. They will be highly experienced professionals who can enhance our existing strengths in areas such as infection and inflammation, respiratory disease, neurodevelopment, trauma and orthopaedics, clinical trials, and biomedical science focussed on children’s health outcomes and experiences. We are also open to considering candidates interested in establishing new fields of significance, including public health, disease prevention, mental health, and factors adversely affecting health. While a clinical qualification in a field related to child health is preferred, it is not mandatory.
The Foundation Chair and Director will be joining a large team of paediatric clinicians and researchers with an outstanding track record and enormous future potential, located within one of the United Kingdom’s thriving cities.

The Director of the Institute of Child Health and Wellbeing will be a permanent position and will be offered in combination with a permanent post at Professorial level.
