When you work for the University of Lancashire, you’ll be part of a thriving community of talent that’s united in a common commitment to transform lives. We do this by delivering an outstanding educational experience and creating prosperity and opportunity in the communities we serve. Whatever your role, you’ll be playing a vital part in helping us achieve our vision.
About the role:
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Deputy Head of Student Returns to join our Student Returns and Data Management Team within the Academic Registry. In this pivotal role, you will lead the coordination and delivery of statutory and regulatory student data returns to key external bodies, including HESA (Higher Education Statistics Agency), the Office for Students (OfS), and other funding and oversight bodies.
You will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of student records and data, helping the University meet its external obligations and informing internal decision-making. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong background in Higher Education data returns, data quality, and compliance.
About you:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional with extensive experience in managing Higher Education data returns for funding, regulatory and performance purposes. The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced data analysis capabilities, proficiency in software such as Excel and SQL, and familiarity with student records systems like Banner. Strong leadership and team development skills are essential, alongside a strategic approach to problem solving and a commitment to data quality and governance. The role requires excellent communication skills, particularly in conveying complex information to non-technical audiences, and a track record of delivering results in a collaborative, values-led environment. An undergraduate degree or equivalent experience is required, and a relevant postgraduate qualification in data management or statistics is desirable.
If you are passionate about data integrity, compliance, and improving student outcomes, we would love to hear from you. Your expertise will directly support institutional performance and enhance the student experience.
What we can offer you:
Our people are our most important asset. We’ll encourage you to make the most of your talents and continually develop your skills and knowledge. As well as realising your career ambitions, you’ll be making a positive difference to other people’s lives. We also offer a fantastic package of rewards and lifestyle benefits – from an attractive annual leave entitlement to access to a comprehensive employee benefits platform.
