The School of Engineering seeks to make the Tenure Track appointment of an Assistant Professor in Aviation Emissions and Combustion. The purpose of this post is to deliver world class engineering education and build an internationally significant research programme in non-CO2 aviation emissions and their climate impact, and combustion of future fuels. The successful applicant will deliver taught modules at undergraduate and integrated master’s levels as part of the BAI/BSc/MAI Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering programme and develop new topical modules for the current Zero Carbon Technology programme, which is offered at Postgraduate Master’s, Diploma and Certificate levels. This role is being created with support from Europe’s largest airline, Ryanair, and the appointee will contribute significantly to Trinity’s Sustainable Aviation Research Centre, which has been established through the support of Ryanair.

Post Status Tenure Track - This position is Tenure Track position which is 5-years in the first instance, permanency is subject to satisfying the tenure requirements.

Salary: Appointment will be made on the Lecturer Salary Scale (109BN) commensurate with qualifications/experience and in line with Public Sector Pay Policy [€42,500 to €101,541 per annum] www.tcd.ie/hr/assets/pdf/monthly-academic.pdf

  • Research plan (summarising the research he/she/they plan(s) to conduct in the next five years in the context of the University’s Sustainable Aviation Research Centre and the support from Ryanair, along with plans for securing competitive research funding – max. 2 pages);
  • A 4-year PhD project proposal on the topic of non-CO2 warming impacts due to aviation emissions (max. 1 page);
  • Teaching statement (max. 2 pages) to include:
    a. summary of teaching philosophy, experience and evidence of successful approach; 
    b. suggested modules where they could contribute within the existing Mechanical engineering programme at Trinity; 
    c. short proposal for effective delivery and assessment of a module on emissions and combustion;
    d. three exemplar master’s research project titles and short descriptions.
