An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced medical educationalist to join the Senior Advising team at Norwich Medical School. Student wellbeing lies at the heart of our curriculum, we want students to enjoy learning medicine and strive to reach their full potential.
The initial role of the post holder will be to support the Senior Advising team in the Department of Medical Education at Norwich Medical School. The Senior Adviser plays an important role in coordinating support for students on several areas including academic, disability and pastoral issues to help equip students for the challenges of being a doctor. Individual support will lie alongside the support offered through Student Services, Occupational Health and outside professional agencies and you will be expected to liaise closely with these services. You will facilitate delivery of reasonable adjustments the School have identified, or that are recommended by Student Services, and/or Occupational Health. You will also support the transfer of information process for students going onto Foundation Year Programme as well as provide advice to academic and other staff to enable students to access their courses and the wider opportunities offered by the University.
You will also deliver lectures and seminars, carry out teaching related duties, and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. You will carry out a formal administrative role within the School and act as a Student Adviser as workload permits.
Teaching is a key part of this role and as such you will be expected to plan, teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, taking responsibility for the delivery and assessment of specific modules. This will include organising modules and developing teaching and learning materials. You will also take responsibility for some of the degree programmes within the School, supervise dissertations at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and promote enterprise and engagement at UEA.
A PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area (or be near completion (within 6 months of appointment)) with experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and student assessment at all levels including coursework, examinations and undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations is essential. Supervision experience at postgraduate level and experience in relevant enterprise and engagement activities would be advantageous.
This full-time post is available from 16 September 2025 on an indefinite basis.
We strongly encourage male applicants, and applicants from Black, Asian or other minority ethnic backgrounds, and welcome applications from all protected groups as defined by the Equality Act 2010. Appointment will be made on merit.
