The Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK (FSEM) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Exams and Standards Manager to lead the operational delivery and quality assurance of our postgraduate medical examinations and standards services. This is a pivotal role within our small, dynamic team, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the future of Sport and Exercise Medicine in the UK.
FSEM is the professional membership body responsible for setting and maintaining the standards of Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) across the UK. We support a multidisciplinary membership and are committed to improving the health of the nation through physical activity. As we transition towards becoming the College of Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine (CSEM) in partnership with BASEM, this role will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth and strategic operation of our exams and standards functions.
The Exams and Standards Manager will be responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and delivery of all Faculty examinations. This includes ensuring that all exams meet the rigorous standards set by the General Medical Council (GMC), and that processes such as question development, marking, grading, and appeals are carried out with accuracy and integrity. You will also support the Faculty’s Appraisal and Revalidation Service, ensuring that appraisers and suitable persons are well-trained and resourced.
A key part of the role involves working closely with internal and external stakeholders, including examiners, psychometricians, platform providers, and the GMC. You will lead on quality assurance initiatives, support the development of examiner performance metrics, and contribute to strategic projects aimed at improving systems and processes. Your ability to manage projects and implement improvements will be essential to success in this role.
We are looking for a candidate with strong experience in managing assessments or examinations, ideally within a medical or higher education context. You should have a solid understanding of quality assurance processes, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team.
