We are seeking a lecturer with motivation and professional experience to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students about the techniques, processes and technologies used by professional Concept Artists.
Main duties and responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching relevant digital Concept Art techniques and applications to students on the Digital Animation and MA Concept Art programmes. You will have a broad understanding of the current technical, professional and commercial contexts for Concept Art and of the ways practice is changing.
You will be highly motivated and ambitious with an excellent track record in one or more areas related to Concept Art and related workflows. You will maintain a clear sense of the development of the area and ensure the curriculum and teaching remain up to date. You will further develop and strengthen external relationships and partnerships with studios and other media organisations that will benefit students and staff and support the strategic objectives of the University and School.
You will be expected to inspire and intellectually challenge our students, developing and delivering a high-quality teaching and learning experience, and ensuring the successful and effective day to day running of modules. You will be expected to work closely with colleagues and the Programme Leader, in a collegial and proactive academic team, to provide an excellent student learning experience.
Skill and experience required
You will have significant relevant professional experience as a concept artist (in either freelance or salaried positions) and of some of the current ways Concept Art is used in industry practices and workflows. Ideally, you will have some experience of teaching at HE level but this is not essential. You must have an in-depth knowledge of digital concept art processes and technologies together with an understanding of the structures, working practices and developing trends within the industries where concept art is used.
You must have good presentation and interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. You will have the ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative and be proficient in English.
Qualifications required
You must hold an undergraduate degree, or equivalent qualification, in a relevant discipline. Having a teaching qualification, membership of the HEA and having, or working towards, a postgraduate or research degree in a relevant field would be an advantage as would membership of relevant professional organisations.
Please view the job description and person specification for a full list of the duties and essential criteria. Please attach a personal statement showing clearly how your skills and experience match the Person Specification.
An appointment to this role may require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate.
This post cannot be visa sponsored unless the applicant has a PhD / Doctorate.
