Faculty Administrator

University of Sussex - Faculty of Social Science

Location: Falmer
Salary: £25,733 to £29,179 per annum, pro rata if part time, Grade 4
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 15th July 2025
Closes: 28th July 2025
Job Ref: 41270

About the role

As a Faculty Administrator, you’ll be part of the Faculty of Social Science’s professional services team, supporting the smooth delivery of day-to-day operations. You’ll provide a friendly and efficient front-line service for staff, students, and visitors, while also supporting internal communications, event coordination, and general administrative processes.

Reporting to the Assistant Operations Manager, you’ll contribute to a wide range of activities, including responding to enquiries, maintaining records, supporting the organisation of Faculty events, and carrying out basic finance administration

You’ll also help ensure the smooth running of the Faculty’s buildings by supporting facilities-related tasks — for example, liaising with Estates, managing post and supplies, and helping to report and follow up on maintenance issues.

You’ll be based in one of our Faculty buildings (Arts C, Essex House, or Freeman) and will collaborate closely with colleagues across the Faculty and wider University to help ensure everything runs smoothly.

About you

You’ll be an organised and adaptable team player, confident managing a varied workload and providing professional support in a busy environment. You’ll enjoy working with people and be comfortable communicating with a wide range of stakeholders — from students and visitors to academic and administrative staff.

You should have previous experience in an administrative role, ideally within a large or complex organisation, and be confident using Microsoft Office and managing shared inboxes. Experience supporting events, handling financial processes, and improving administrative systems will also be valuable.

Above all, you’ll bring a flexible, proactive approach and a willingness to support colleagues across the Faculty wherever needed.
