The School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences (MHaPS) is one of three schools under the IoPPN, comprised of the four departments of Psychology: Social, Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry; Health Service & Population Research; and Biostatistics & Health Informatics. With over 100 Principal Investigators, our research spans development from childhood to old age, encompassing basic research through to the development and implementation of treatments, services and policy.

About the role:

You will work closely with the School’s senior leadership team and key stakeholders across the Faculty and wider university to ensure operational efficiency, compliance, and a culture of continuous improvement.

You will oversee and refine essential systems and processes, enabling our research and education community to thrive in a safe, well-managed and inclusive environment. This role offers line management responsibilities and wide exposure across the School, making it an excellent platform for professionals seeking to develop their career in higher education business operations.

This is a full-time post, and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you: 

Essential criteria

  • Strong knowledge and experience in space planning, utilisation, and management, with the ability to engage and collaborate with a range of stakeholders to coordinate space requirements within a complex organisation
  • Proven ability to provide effective line management, including supporting performance, conduct, and professional development.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to adapt to changing demands, manage competing priorities, and work independently.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and develop strong working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience of supporting or coordinating health and safety activity in a workplace setting, with an understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and the importance of creating a safe working environment
  • Confident in using Microsoft 365 tools (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook, Forms, Power BI), with the flexibility to adopt new technologies that support operational efficiency.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in managing operational tasks, such as space allocation, asset management, and data analysis
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment, aligned with principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in higher education or a similar environment, with knowledge of sector-specific challenges and opportunities
  • Previous experience in managing operational projects, including implementing process improvements and managing change effectively
  • Trained to IoSH or NEBOSH level or willing to undertake training if required.
