The role

We are seeking to appointment a Clinical Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Global Health and Ageing Research to join the Global Health and Ageing Research (GHAR) Unit. This post will provide up to three years of funded post-doctoral training for an academic physician with expertise in ageing who wants to grow to become an established clinical academic in global health and ageing.

What will you be doing?

  • Working within a multidisciplinary, international team to deliver high-quality research in line with the aims of the Global Health and Ageing Research programme, based at Bristol Medical School.
  • Providing clinical research expertise into established programmes of work within the Global Health and Ageing Research programme, including in Zimbabwe
  • Developing a comprehensive portfolio of your own ageing research, with national and international collaborations, working towards research independence.
  • Applying as PI and Co-I for grants/fellowships to support your research independence.
  • Building research expertise though publishing articles in high quality peer reviewed journals, presenting at national and international conferences, community engagement and involvement, all working in collaboration with colleagues nationally and internationally
  • Ensuring the smooth running of research activities, working with international teams
  • Contributing to the life of the Unit, School and University, for instance by speaking at events and participating in committees and groups, teaching as appropriate.

You should apply if

  • You hold a medical degree, and a PhD, and an NTN or CCT
  • You want to grow to become an independent researcher in global health and ageing research
  • You have experience of conducting high-quality research in age-related disease in resource-limited settings
  • You have a strong publication record, including first-author publications, in open-access peer-reviewed journals
  • You have contributed to research proposal development and/or support of successful funding bids
  • You can manage your own workload, including multitasking across different activities, and different countries, to consistently deliver projects on time
  • You will be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, international team that spans two continents
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills, showing clarity of expression

Additional information

Contract type: Open ended with fixed funding (3 years)

Work pattern: Part time 0.5fte

Shift pattern: 20 hours per week
