The Role

Lecturer in Historic Environment

The purpose of this role is to contribute to engaged research and training on histories of place in the IHR’s Centre for the History of People, Place and Community (CHPPC), covering a period of staff leave. The lecturer will have research expertise in histories of place, with particular reference to the historic built environment. They will take on the duties of Architectural Editor of the Victoria County History of England (VCH), supporting the VCH community with training, editorial guidance and subject-specific work in this area. They will manage ongoing projects, including VCH research and publications in progress, and the externally-funded VCH digitisation project, working with the team in the CHPPC. More broadly, they will contribute to IHR initiatives to support community-based and grassroots history across the UK, liaising with local groups and partners. They will contribute to IHR teaching and training in their specialist area, as appropriate.

The University currently operates a Hybrid Working framework involving a mix of working from remotely and in the office. Typically, the majority of employees will be able to agree to work remotely for up to 60% of their working week, role dependent, however will be required to attend on specific days for training or team meetings.
