Science Technology Graduate Programme - Bioinformatics Facility LMS 2653

MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences

Summary:

The MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) is a biomedical research institute where scientists and clinicians collaborate to advance the understanding of biology and its application to medicine.

The Science Technology Graduate Programme offers aspiring scientists the opportunity to work across the LMS’s portfolio of research facilities to develop their technical expertise, through high-quality training in cutting-edge biomedical research technologies. In addition, the programme supports the professional development of scientists by teaching them research facility management and offering a variety of training courses, workshops, and other growth opportunities.

We are looking for talented graduates who hold a BSc, but do not hold an MSc, in a relevant scientific discipline to join our Bioinformatics Facility. In this facility, graduates will be introduced to power of data analysis and develop insights by transforming data to study gene expression and tissue architectures at the single-cell level.

At the start of the programme, Science Technology Graduates will be assigned to a single research facility, where they will undertake most of their work. Subsequently they will have the opportunity to interact with other research facilities to broaden knowledge and practical experience. Graduates will also participate in developing facility methods and techniques, and in improving the Institute’s environmental sustainability.

This position offers graduates a host of benefits including a defined benefit pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement, and access to employee shopping and travel discounts.

This position requires the post-holder to work full-time, on-site, either in the laboratory or in the office as required, with no opportunity for remote work.

This position does not meet the criteria for Skilled Worker sponsorship (visa); therefore, we are therefore unable to sponsor applicants who are ineligible to work in the UK.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must have home UK status i.e. you are a British citizen or Irish national or have a permanent right to live in the UK and have lived in the UK for three full years at the time of their application
  • Applications from graduates are strongly encouraged if they:

    • Are first in their families to go to university
    • Have received financial hardship bursaries during their academic careers
  • Applicants must have 2:1 or above in their BSc in a relevant scientific discipline, awarded in 2022 or later, or set to be awarded before August 2025
