About the role:

The Institute of Ismaili Studies is looking for an hourly-paid Lecturer to teach a Master’s level module in ‘Research Design and Methods’, beginning late September. 

The module is taught primarily over ten 3-hour classes over 5 weeks in Term 2 (22 September to 24 October), Depending on the Lecturer’s availability they will ideally also lead follow-up sessions in Terms 2 and 3: four sessions for student presentations of their research proposals in January- February, and two final classes in May to help prepare students for fieldwork and dissertation writing. All teaching is done in person at The IIS in London. The Lecturer will assess and give formative feedback on students’ draft and final research proposals.

What you will do:

  • Prepare the syllabus for the ‘Research Design and Methods’ module.
  • Use the module page on Moodle to present readings and any other resources for students.
  • Deliver lectures and seminars on the module.
  • Assess and give constructive feedback on students’ coursework and presentations.
  • Attend relevant meetings as required by programme management.
  • Undertake relevant administrative duties in accordance with the requirements and expectations set out by programme management.

What you need:

  • PhD in a field of the Social Sciences or Humanities.
  • Field research experience.
  • Strong familiarity with research methods and methodological and ethical issues in the Social Science and Humanities.
  • Ability to develop innovative teaching methods with a focus on skills acquisition through active learning.
  • High level of written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to and a strong understanding of equal opportunities issues with a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
