Our Mission

Coventry University is a global Education Group that empowers students and communities to transform their lives and society through teaching, learning, research, and enterprise.

An ambitious and innovative university, our research is designed to have real-world impact on society and tackle global challenges through our 16 challenge-led, interdisciplinary research centres. We enable high performing research teams and future research leaders to thrive and make an impact locally, regionally, nationally, and globally

The Role

We’re looking for a talented and driven Research Fellow to join an ambitious UKRI Proof of Concept project developing a disruptive forensic toolset that will redefine how pedestrian collisions are investigated.

Every year, thousands of pedestrians are injured or killed on the roads. Investigations are often slow, costly, and inconclusive, especially in hit-and-run cases. At Coventry University, we’re building a better way.

The Tools

Our Transport Safety and Simulation Research Group has developed:

  • PACE-AI – A patented algorithm that extracts vehicle impact speed using only bumper/windscreen damage and pedestrian data.
  • FORECAST – A unique simulation suite estimating likely injuries with strong evidential value.

Together, these tools cut investigation times from days to minutes and bring real change to legal fairness, trauma-informed policing, and the UK’s Vision Zero goals.

This position will start October 1st 2025 and is for 12 Months.

We aim to hold the interviews week commencing 8th September 2025

Our Successful Candidate

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong skills in programming and machine learning.
  • Experience with frontend development and responsive UI design.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity, data management, and scalable computing.
  • Ability to communicate research clearly and grow external networks.

CFTC is an award-winning centre with a history of shaping real-world safety outcomes, including the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award 2021. You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team committed to impact, innovation, and public good.

This is your chance to contribute to a project that will change the way collisions are investigated and improve lives.
