We are seeking a temporary Research Assistant to join the ProACTIVE research team, which is examining the impact and effectiveness of Alcohol Care Teams in England. This is an exciting opportunity for self-motivated researcher to join a highly experienced team funded by the National Institute for Health Research (https://fundingawards.nihr.ac.uk/award/NIHR152084).
The position will involve regular visits to Scarborough General Hospital, where the successful candidate will work with Dr Ireson (Principal Investigator) to recruit hospital inpatients and deliver the ProACTIVE research study. There may be some occasional travel required to the University of Hull, so we would welcome applicants who have access to transport.
The post holder will be employed by the University of Hull and will be accountable to Professor Thomas Phillips (Chief Investigator) and report to Maddie Wilkinson, the ProACTIVE Trial Manager. They will also have an honorary contract with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation.
The successful candidate will recruit or follow up patients with lived experience of alcohol dependence to a quasi-experimental study. They will be based at Scarborough General Hospital, where they will work closely with the Principal Investigator, clinical research nurses and ward staff to identify and recruit participants, take informed consent, conduct research questionnaires and enter data.
The ideal candidates will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, in addition to experience of administering psychometric tests, and engaging with vulnerable people in clinical or research settings. The role requires independent working, so strong time management and organisational skills are essential.
This post is up until February 2026, with variable hours across the 7-day week available. The role is flexible, and hours will be dependent upon progress with participant recruitment. We require 10 patients to be recruited to this study per week.
