Summary of the role
The University of Exeter is one of nine institutional members of the prestigious National Institute for Health Research School for Public Health Research (NIHR SPHR). NIHR SPHR is the NIHR’s consortium of leading academic centres in public health, representing an investment in research and capacity-building worth >£25m in the 2022-2027 quinquennium.
SPHERE is a highly interdisciplinary collection of researchers from across the breadth of the University’s structure. A commitment to effective and inclusive public involvement and engagement underpins all of SPHERE’s ambitions, with specific regard to rural, low-income communities.
Based in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, we deliver a range of research projects across all of SPHR’s research programmes. This new project is funded by the NIHR Three Schools Prevention Programme, a programme of work managed by SPHR. The postholder will be working within an existing small team of research and professional services staff to offer project management support and co-ordination on a project focused on tackling the health inequalities experienced by the farming community.
The transdisciplinary project team brings together academics from the University of Exeter, experts from the Integrated Care Board and Primary Care Network, clinicians, and community partners, including Imagine If, a not-for-profit social enterprise with expertise in community engagement and rural health. The project was co-produced through extensive consultation with these individuals and organisations, building on relationships established during previous NIHR-funded work. The successful applicant will be required to develop effective working relationships across this broad range of stakeholders and use a robust programme management approach to support the delivery of this programme of work, ensuring the project is planned and delivered within the timescales identified and to budget.
The Research Project Manager will be responsible for the management, co-ordination and delivery of the project, including supporting the project team with scheduling, budget control and monitoring of project milestones and success factors for the funder. In addition, the Research Project Manager will lead on the monitoring of project activities and the capturing of outputs such as publications and impact, which will be regularly reported internally and externally. This will include the production of project progress reports to the funder.
