Contract Type: 12-month Fixed-Term, Part Time contract. FTE 0.8, 30 hours per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) 

The Role 

As Interim Head of Student Support, you’ll lead a team responsible for delivering key services across Counselling, Wellbeing and Inclusive Support at UA92. Reporting to the Chief of Strategy and Student Life, this is a strategic leadership role focused on delivering joined-up, proactive and inclusive student support. 

You’ll oversee the design and implementation of policies and services that promote student safety, belonging and resilience and an active figure across our campuses. 

Importantly, this role is the Designated Safeguarding and Prevent Lead for UA92, with responsibility for ensuring safeguarding policy, practice and decision-making meets all regulatory and pastoral standards.  

What You’ll Do 

  • Lead the Counselling, Wellbeing, and Inclusive Support service 
  • Act as Designated Safeguarding and Prevent Lead, including managing complex cases and risk assessments 
  • Develop and implement wellbeing, inclusion and mental health policies and frameworks 
  • Promote student belonging through events, campaigns and community initiatives 
  • Work cross-functionally with academic and operational teams to ensure a holistic approach to student support 
  • Manage team performance and development, budgets, and service KPIs 
  • Represent UA92 in external sector networks and partnerships

What We’re Looking For 

  • Experience in leading safeguarding processes within a Higher Education setting 
  • Proven leadership in student support, inclusion or wellbeing services 
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation and policy (e.g. disability support, mental health, safeguarding) 
  • A Level 3 Safeguarding qualification (or willingness to achieve one) 
  • Membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) 
  • Excellent communication and crisis management skills 
  • A student-focused, proactive and solutions-oriented approach
