The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. We are seeking to appoint a BSF Junior Technician to work in the school’s animal facility. Applicants must have a proven interest in working with animals. Working under supervision, you will be involved in the general husbandry of animals including feeding, watering, and carrying out routine procedures to ensure the hygiene of animal accommodation as well as the general upkeep of the facility.
This is a physically demanding role and other duties include:
Full training will be given including sponsored study leave for Institute of Animal Technology (IAT) qualifications.
The successful applicant will have a good general education with GCSE English, Maths and Science desired and A level Science or equivalent is preferred; will be reliable and able to work well in a team as well as able to manage work on their own. The role is physically demanding and has some repetitive moving as well as lifting, carrying and manual dexterity. Further particulars are included in the job description.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in weekend/public holidays rota system when trained. Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and a security check.
The post is full time and permanent. The post is funded by the Faculty of Infectious and Tropical Diseases and is available immediately.
The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 3 in the range £29,814 - £33,457 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
