About the Role:
We are seeking a practical, hands-on individual to help keep our university campus safe, well-maintained, and welcoming for all students, staff, and visitors.
The post holder will carry out routine inspections and minor repairs across campus buildings to ensure facilities remain in good working condition. This will include resolving minor maintenance issues such as clearing blockages or resetting bedroom trip switches, as well as reporting any concerns that require further repair or replacement.
Although the role supports the wider University estate, including both on-campus and off-campus sites, the post holder will be predominantly based at one of our city buildings.
As part of the role, the post holder will also support building security and access, including locking and unlocking buildings, managing emergency access, and monitoring for safety or security issues such as broken windows or faulty alarms. The post holder will work collaboratively with campus security teams to ensure premises remain secure.
In addition, the post holder will assist with the upkeep of communal and external areas, including cleaning entrance vestibules and walkways, emptying bins, and helping maintain tidy and hazard-free car parks, paths, and green spaces.
A commitment to health and safety compliance is essential. Regular risk assessments and minor spillage handling required; work areas coordinated post-maintenance; raise concerns to supervisors when needed.
The role also includes cleaning and portering duties, supporting the smooth operation of university accommodation and shared facilities.
About You:
The ideal candidate will be someone who is reliable, self-motivated, and committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment.
