Job Summary

Join our dedicated team in NHSBT organ donation and transplantation. You’ll be part of a programme team at the forefront of organ transplantation projects, ultimately saving and improving lives.

The establishment of a national Assessment and Recovery Centre (ARC) service will extend equitable access to life-saving products and treatments to everyone that needs them and bridge the gap between shortage of organs available and demand.

You will have an innovative, problem-solving approach, with strong stakeholder management skills and experience in implementing risk management and governance processes. By being part of a passionate, enthusiastic, supportive, and high performing team, you will build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You will contribute to life-saving work, where every day promises diversity and excitement managing critical programmes aimed at enhancing organ donation and transplantation services.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be a Senior Statistician is responsible for co-ordinating, planning and managing the work of, and providing expertise in, a specialist area. Your responsibilities include:

  • Reporting results of statistical analyses of data on transplantation, blood organ and tissue donation, and transfusion medicine to the NHSBT specialist Advisory Groups, the Department of Health and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Undertaking statistical analyses, including analyses of clinical outcome and prognostic factors, and reporting the results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Co-ordinating, planning and managing the work of, and providing expertise in, a specialist area, such as the design and analysis of clinical trials.
  • Contributing to the preparation of business and strategic plans for Statistics and Clinical Research for aspects relating to their specialist area.
  • Contributing to the collation of statistical data that are supplied by NHSBT in response to requests for information from a variety of sources including government and the media.
  • Reviewing analyses and reports prepared by other statisticians to ensure that analyses are accurate, meaningful and fit for purpose.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint).
  • Use of univariate and multifactorial survival analysis and advanced modelling techniques.
  • Experience in the application of statistics in a medical environment.
  • Experience of supervising, including delegation and assessment of work.
  • Presenting statistical analysis to a medical audience.
  • Writing peer review papers for submission to journals.
  • Use of SAS (preferred), R, Python or Stata.
  • Managing workloads to meet deadlines.

  • A full time, permanent opportunity to join as a Band 7, and progress with NHSBT.
