This is a full time, fixed term position for 2 years.

We are seeking an enthusiastic cardiovascular immunologist or an expert in immunology and/or vascular biology to join Professor Claudia Monaco’s research group at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology.

In this role, you will apply single cell biology and cell signalling techniques combined with in vivo and in vitro models to determine the activators of inflammation in atherosclerosis. You will identify and develop suitable techniques, and apparatus, for the collection and analysis of data (e.g. flow and mass cytometry, confocal microscopy, and associated techniques). You will be responsible for conducting data analysis and ensuring the validity and reliability of data at all times as well as maintaining highly organised and accurate records of experimental work and findings. You will take initiatives in the planning of research; conduct and plan own scientific work with appropriate supervision and present findings to colleagues within the Institute and at national and international meetings/conferences. You will be expected to actively participate in Group/Institute research meetings and internal seminars as well as submit publications to high quality refereed journals and write reports for submission to research sponsors.

You must hold a PhD (or be near completion) in a biomedical field of laboratory-based research (ideally immunology and/or vascular biology) alongside experience in cell biology and cell signalling in isolated primary cells. You must also have experience in phenotyping of genetically modified experimental models of atherosclerosis and have the capacity to deliver high-quality research outputs. You will demonstrate good spoken and written communication skills, with an ability to clearly present results to multidisciplinary audiences and an ability to work well independently using own initiative, as well as part of a team.

Experience in a variety of advanced microscopy techniques and computational biology expertise are desired.

Due to the nature of the research at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, this job will require additional security pre-employment checks:

  • A satisfactory basic Disclosure and Barring Service check
  • University security screening (eg identity checks)
