The Faculty of Music at the University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint an Assistant Concert Hall Manager for West Road Concert Hall, a 500-seat performance space famed for its superb acoustic qualities and integral to the Faculty. Hosting approximately 250 events each year including concerts, conferences, talks, opera, dance, comedy, and recordings, this is an excellent opportunity an administrator with a keen eye for detail, excellent organisational and communication skills, and an understanding of venue management.
The role holder will support and deputise for the Concert Hall Manager, providing administrative support, acting as the first point of contact for all users, contracting with clients (generating turnover of approximately £500k) and supporting their events during the booking process. For conferences, the Concert Hall Manager and Assistant Manager provide on-the-ground support to clients, requiring some working outside of standard hours. The successful candidate will have the ability to prioritise and self-manage their workload, to meet targets and deadlines, and be able to deal with pressure.
At the heart of a vast network of musical study, research and practice, the Faculty of Music is home to 21 academic and research staff, 20 affiliated lecturers and 14 support staff who work with around 200 undergraduates and 75 postgraduate students. As a world-leading centre of research the Faculty includes specialists in medieval and renaissance music, early modern music, nineteenth-century music, opera, popular music, ethnomusicology, performance studies, composition, and scientific approaches to music. Faculty facilities also include a specialist music library, a purpose-built studio and music computing facilities, as well as an impressive collection of historical instruments and a Javanese gamelan.
The successful candidate will have excellent organisational and communication skills along with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
