Edinburgh Napier University’s School of Applied Sciences is recognised for the quality of the educational provision we offer, the employability of our graduates and the international reputation and partnerships we have.
Our modern specialist laboratory facilities and relationships with external partners provide both staff and students with an ideal environment to deliver excellent research and practical based education.
The valuable contribution of our technical staff is what helps to keep our labs running smoothly and efficiently. As such, we are currently looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to take on the role of Laboratory Technical Assistant to work in the biomedical science section of the school supporting technical colleagues with the required turnover of laboratory areas, practical class equipment and associated resources.
The Role:
As someone with a basic understanding of laboratory work, you will be in an excellent position to join the technical team, supporting practical class teaching and research primarily within the Biomedical Science section of the school.
Your main responsibilities will include assisting with setting up and clearing away practical classes and the general care and housekeeping of laboratories. This includes the removal and disposal of laboratory waste by appropriate means as well as assisting technical staff with the preparation of laboratory practical classes.
We assume that you are someone with good communication skills who is proactive, flexible and able to work effectively within a team, so these qualities will serve you well as you also utilise your knowledge of Health and Safety to undertake good laboratory practice in support of all users of the facilities.
Given that you may be looking to progress your career or studies in a laboratory setting, this is a prime opportunity for you to familiarise yourself with general laboratory operating procedures and put yourself one step ahead of the game.
