About the role
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Research Assistant to support two research groups at the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS). As the Research Assistant, you will play an essential role in supporting Dr Middleton and Dr Sweeney, two clinician scientists with day-to-day laboratory work. Your time will be split evenly, with 50% dedicated to each research group.
What you would be doing
Your responsibilities will include assisting with the development and maintenance of monocyte model system as well as the verification of genetic models with molecular biology methods and the isolation of monocytes from whole blood. In addition, you will manage a mouse colony, complete wet lab analysis of protein and gene expression and histological analysis of samples from transgenic mice. You’ll be a key part of a dynamic and collaborative team, contributing to research that aims to reveal new disease mechanisms and identify potential therapeutic targets.
What we are looking for
You should hold a Master’s degree in a relevant biological subject or related discipline or have equivalent experience in laboratory management. Proven experience with tissue culture, including the cryopreservation of cells is required. Additionally, you should be familiar with basic molecular biology techniques such as western blotting, DNA and RNA extraction, and RT-PCR. Proven experience working with laboratory animals is also essential, along with a willingness to work toward obtaining a personal animal licence.
