The Department of Media Arts at Royal Holloway seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Video Games Art and Design. The vacancy is available for an immediate start and the successful applicant would be expected to start the role no later than January 2026.
We seek to appoint an individual with substantial experience in the delivery of higher education courses in video games art and design, to act as a Senior Lecturer and Course Lead on our BA Video Games Art and Design. They will join at an exciting time for the department, playing an active role in opportunities to build new curricula and industry-engagement at our advanced production Futures Studio. They will also have the opportunity to work with the ground-breaking CoSTAR National R&D Lab, a £51.1m programme for converged media production studio at Pinewood and delivered in partnership with Disguise, BT, University of Surrey, Abertay University, StoryFutures and the National Film & Television School.
The role holder will work with the Head of Department and Vice Dean for Education and Student Experience to develop strategies to guarantee high qualities of academic provision and student experience. They will liaise with the admissions department to promote the course as a top-level choice for the next generation of video games artists and designers. They will provide leadership and mentoring for the broader course team.
The role holder will have either substantial experience of leading modules and course units, with the experience and expertise needed to move to a course leadership role; or will have previous experience in the successful leadership of degree courses. Their teaching practice will be underpinned by a substantial and up to date knowledge of video games art and design and/or virtual production techniques and workflows, and ideally by experience with relevant software packages such as Unreal Engine, Blender, Maya or Cinema4D.
The role holder will provide strategic direction and continuous course development to maintain currency of teaching. Liaising with relevant colleagues in the School of Performing and Digital Arts they will build closer links between BA Video Games Art and Design and other undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes in the School.
