About the College
Homerton College was founded in the 18th Century, moved to its current location in 1894 and was granted a Royal Charter as a self-governing College of the University of Cambridge in 2010. Located within easy reach of the historic city centre, and within easy access to Cambridge mainline station, the College has over 1,000 students and a Fellowship of about 70.
Our core values include fairness, openness and excellence, and the College ethos is exemplified by a desire to ensure access for the widest range of talented students, to provide outstanding teaching and to offer financial support where we can.
About the role
Homerton College is seeking a highly organised, creative, and relationship-focused Alumni and Public Events Manager to lead and deliver a portfolio of large-scale events at the College and beyond. These events support the College’s strategic educational goals and include lectures, panel discussions, dinners, receptions, symposia, and exhibitions. Flagship events include the annual Charter Dinner and Black History Month celebrations, each attended by around 300 guests. You will also manage a vibrant range of smaller alumni and donor events including in London and other cities; subject- and society-based reunions; and regional or international gatherings. Working closely with the Director of Development and the Principal, you will develop and implement new events aligned with the College’s strategic aims.
A key responsibility is coordinating the Events Policy Group (EPG), which meets bi-monthly to review event proposals that align with educational objectives but fall outside the College’s main conferencing and student-focused activities.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience leading the planning and delivery of large-scale events involving multiple stakeholders. You will possess excellent written and oral communication skills and be confident engaging a wide range of stakeholders with professionalism, tact, and diplomacy. Enthusiasm and excellent relationship-building skills, along with the ability to work calmly under pressure and flexibly as part of a small team, are essential.
You will be proficient in general IT applications, willing to learn new systems, able to handle data sensitively, and comply with GDPR legislation. A commitment to the College’s mission, vision, and values is crucial, alongside good numeracy skills and budget management experience. You must be willing to work outside regular hours (with Time Off in Lieu) and undertake occasional travel.
Additionally, experience in alumni relations and supporting development or fundraising initiatives within a Collegiate University context would be advantageous. Experience in the use of digital event promotion tools such as Mailchimp and Eventbrite is highly desirable.
